We are very pleased to announce that Surrey Heath Borough Council has secured funding from Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to improve the High Street and public spaces in Camberley Town Centre.
SHBC has been awarded a £3.5 million grant from Enterprise M3’s Local Growth Fund. The LEP supports economic growth of areas in the M3 corridor - stretching from Staines-upon-Thames to the New Forest, covering mid to North Hampshire, as well as South and West Surrey. SHBC will add funds of £900k, so the total budget for the project is £4.4 million.
The scheme is an integral part of the strategy to develop Camberley as a major commercial centre. It is estimated that the improvements could lead to an increase in the number of people coming into the town centre by 20% over a 10 year period. Other potential economic benefits expected to be generated by the scheme include more 100 jobs, with a total value of over £14m.

Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) welcomes the Industrial Strategy White Paper, which reaffirms Government’s commitment to Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEP).
The White Paper also confirms funding for Growth Hubs to continue connecting businesses to the best support available from the private and public sectors, and helping high potential businesses to scale up.
As part of the many initiatives to strengthen the role of LEPs, the Prime Minister will meet with the Council of LEP Chairs twice yearly from 2018. This will provide more opportunities for LEPs to highlight local business needs and contribute to national policy decisions.
Dr Mike Short CBE, Chairman of Enterprise M3 LEP, said: “We are delighted by Government’s continued recognition and support for LEPs as reflected in the Industrial Strategy White Paper. Enterprise M3 is has a strong history of delivery and we are already working with our local authorities, other partners and business to t
Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), today announced that Dr Mike Short, CBE, will be stepping down as its Chairman following his recent appointment as the Chief Scientific Adviser to the Department for International Trade (DIT), a post within the civil service.
Mike Short’s new role as a civil servant means that he can no longer continue as the LEP’s Chairman, as he no longer meets the criteria of working in the private sector – which is a requirement for leading a LEP.
Mike will remain on the Enterprise M3 board where he will continue to champion his interests in science and technology and work with businesses and fellow board members to improve productivity and growth within the economy.
Commenting on the new development, Mike said:
“I have really enjoyed my role a
Innovation South, representing business, science and innovation organisations across the South of England, warmly welcomes the Government’s announcement of a £115m “Strength in Place Fund” which will build on a region’s science & innovation strengths to drive growth and productivity.

A hundred business and community leaders came together to launch a new partnership and pledge to ensure our most precious landscapes work in harmony with the economy.
The Green Halo Partnership brings together organisations from across central southern England to protect and enhance our ‘natural capital’ - the benefits we derive from nature such as clean air and water, protection from flooding, food and healthy outdoor activities.
Architects, wildlife charities, councils, utility businesses, health bodies, universities and civil engineering firms were among around 70 organisations signing up to the partnership at the launch at Ordnance Survey, Southampton, yesterday (Wednesday, 22 November).
The partners identified a range of actions and projects which will help maintain and enhance our natural resources and so protect the unique character and identity of the New Forest and surrounding area.

Hart’s newest greenspace, Bramshot Farm Country Park, has reached the penultimate stage before officially opening to the public. Situated just off the A327, it boasts an extra 91 acres of greenspace for use by the residents and visitors of Hart, with pathways extending for 2.5 kilometres through fields and woodland.
The new Country Park was recognised by an official ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday 13th November, attended by Hart District Councils’ Chairman Councillor Gerry Crisp, alongside joint Chief Executive Patricia Hughes. Hart Councillors were also in attendance to recognise the event.
Councillor Crisp said “Our Countryside Team have been working hard over the last 6 months to deliver a quality Country Park for the local community. This is very much a first step in its development, and we hope over the years that this site will continue to develop and grow into a remarkable high quality greenspace.”
The exciting new site will initially host two differen
The University of Surrey’s 5G Innovation Centre (5GIC) hosted the country's first Transport on Demand (ToD) demonstration of an autonomous vehicle at its unique 5G testbed.
The 5GIC and its partners, Huawei, Vodafone and Technical University of Munich showed a fully operational Audi Q7 located on the Stag Hill campus in Guildford being operated from a control panel in the London ExCeL conference centre – all made possible thanks to the power of 5G.
The demonstration was part of the 8th Global Mobile Broadband Forum, hosted by Huawei, its industry partners GSMA and GTI, and took place on 15 and 16 November. At the Forum, 5GIC, Huawei and Vodafone also showcased a range of innovations, including a world’s first demonstration of 5G-enabled stream of holographic content.
Professor Rahim Tafazolli, Founder and Director of the 5GIC, said: “With these demonstrations it shows that 5G is now a reality and the te
Facebook and Airbus Working Together to Advance High Altitude Connectivity
At Facebook, one of the ways we’re helping bring the world closer together is by pioneering new technologies to bring affordable connectivity to more people, faster. This includes our work on the Aquila program, a high altitude platform station (HAPS) broadband connectivity system.
This type of HAPS architecture includes much more than just a fleet of aircraft carrying communications payloads. It will eventually augment terrestrial and satellite networks from approximately 20 km above ground, with minimal infrastructure and maintenance. We believe that HAPS connectivity is an important enabler of the next generation of broadband infrastructure, making it possible to bring broadband connectivity to rural regions where internet connectivity is lacking or non-existent.
Connecting the world in this way will require strong collaboration between companies, organizations, and gover
