Despite inclement weather, hundreds of intrepid innovators, investors and entrepreneurs journeyed to Winchester last Thursday for the second Venturefest South 2018 showcase, dubbed #VFS18.
Over £10 million was at stake as 35 entrepreneurs pitched their businesses to investors. The day featured a keynote address from Seraphim Capital’s Managing Partner, James Bruegger who talked about the fund’s investment in space, as well as a new Young Entrepreneurs Village and Open Mic competition.

The Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has announced the winners of Phase 1 of the UK National 5G Test Beds and Trials programme that will provide major showcases for applications of 5G in important sectors of the UK economy. We are delighted to see that the 5GIC is working closely with three of the test beds announced. These new test beds will build on the pioneering work done by 5GIC which has been supported from its inception by Enterprise M3 with a £5m investment from the Government’s Local Growth Fund.

MARWELL Zoo is cultivating careers thanks to investment into its unique £7.8 million Tropical House exhibit – its largest and most ambitious project to date.
A £1.5 million Local Growth Fund (LGF) grant from the Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) is enabling Marwell Zoo, an iconic regional asset, to grow future talent.
The Tropical House, a state-of-the-art exhibit where a rainforest and living laboratory will come to life, represents a critical venture as part of a 10 year £17 million investment strategy to offer improved habitats for animals and a more immersive experience for guests.
The project is designed to bring low carbon, rural and tourism economy benefits and is anticipated to continue to uplift Marwell Zoo’s contribution to jobs and the economy over five years.

Great BASE for Business Growth
Nine businesses and three co-workers have already moved into new BASE Bordon Innovation Centre at Broxhead House, Whitehill & Bordon, East Hampshire. The enterprise hub, geared at start-ups and scale ups, is run by Oxford Innovation. There are 34 offices on flexible rental terms, along with co-working space, meeting rooms for hire and virtual offices.
A new Innovation Centre in north-east Hampshire is already more than a quarter full – just weeks before the official opening.
